Linda Mama Revival for Nakuru Mothers

Linda Mama ensured free maternity care. Geoffrey Mwangi promises its revival in Nakuru through NAKU-Afya. Mothers deserve dignity.

Linda Mama Was a Lifeline for Mothers

Linda Mama, under the NHIF, was not just a healthcare policy; it was a lifeline for thousands of expectant mothers across Kenya. It ensured that women, regardless of their income level, could access free prenatal and post-natal care, safe deliveries, and maternal follow-ups without the burden of hospital bills. As someone who believes deeply in human dignity and family welfare, I watched this program touch lives and save futures.

Nakuru’s Shame: Detaining Mothers After Birth

Today, it breaks my heart, and should shake the conscience of every Nakuru County resident- that women are being detained in our county hospitals after giving birth. Why? Because the Linda Mama program was scrapped, and in its absence, the county leadership failed to offer an alternative. These are not just headlines; they are heartbreaking stories of mothers separated from newborns, humiliated over unpaid bills. Is this the Nakuru we want? Absolutely not.

NAKU-Afya: A New Dawn for Maternal Care in Nakuru

When elected Governor of Nakuru County, I will revive the spirit of Linda Mama under a localized health model called NAKU-Afya; a people-centered county health system that prioritizes mothers, children, and the vulnerable. We will rebuild trust in our health facilities, eliminate out-of-pocket costs for maternal care, and partner with NHIF and trusted institutions to make universal maternal health a reality again in Nakuru.

My Commitment: Healthcare That Restores Dignity

As a Certified Public Accountant and leader who values planning and accountability, I don’t make vague promises. I propose a clear, structured rollout of maternal health subsidies through NAKU-Afya. We will allocate targeted funds to ensure every pregnant woman in Nakuru receives free maternal care, just like under Linda Mama. We will also ensure no mother is ever detained in a county hospital again — never again under my watch.

Nakuru Deserves Better, and It Starts with Our Mothers

When we talk about development, we must start with the people who give life — our mothers. Linda Mama represented compassion, dignity, and public responsibility. With the current situation in Nakuru, it is clear we’ve lost that direction. But under my leadership, we will bring back dignity to maternal care and build a health system that listens, acts, and delivers; just as I have pledged in my broader manifesto. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1CE92Sndy2/
